About

Zavier Wong Zhen Rui (b. 1993, Singapore) is an designer, maker and artist based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. A graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven under the mentorship of Nacho Carbonell, he also interned with furniture designer Valentin Loellmann before establishing his independent practice in 2021 while working as a metalworker at Studio Job. These experiences deepened his fascination with materials and the discipline of making.

His practice is guided by what he calls “gardening in an industrial wilderness” — an attitude of care and attentiveness within systems that often value speed and efficiency. This philosophy has evolved from the reuse of discarded materials into a posture of listening: a way of noticing what is usually overlooked, whether a scrap of plywood in a bin or a technique waiting to be rediscovered.

Through a making-driven, materially responsive process, he transforms materials to reveal new readings of function, beauty, and value. His works invite reflection on how tenderness and wonder might coexist with utility.

Zavier’s works have been exhibited at Collectible Fair, Milan Design Week, PAD London, Dutch Design Week, Jodhpur Arts Week, and Singapore Design Week, and featured in Crafts Magazine, DAMN Magazine, and Phaidon’s Design for Life: The World’s Best Product Designers.
